Cotton Production In Pakistan May Not Reach The Government'S Target This Year.

Pakistan's cotton production is expected to be less than 11 million 500 thousand bales in 2008-09, which means that 2 million 500 thousand packages will be reduced from the 14 million 100 thousand package set by the government.

The Pakistan Cotton Association (KCA) said there were several reasons for the reduction in cotton production.

The allocation of cropping land is not appropriate. Farmers do not attach importance to picking methods, poor cotton seeds and too few irrigation facilities in their country.

Pakistan cotton Manufacturers Association (PCGA) said that the production of 11 million 700 thousand bales of cotton in 2007-08 was 2 million 400 thousand less than that of the government's target of 14 million 100 thousand bales.

In addition, the high price of cotton has increased the profit pressure of textile enterprises.

If the country wants to keep the textile enterprise running, it must spend 1 billion 200 million US dollars to import cotton.

In August, the average domestic cotton price hit a record high of 4235 rupees / maund, but the price dropped to 4050 rupees / maund with the advent of new cotton in September.

However, the price of lint is still 46% higher than that of 2840 rupees last year.

During the month of April 2008 -8, cotton production target was revised to about 8%, or 10 million packs.

The international cotton information committee reported in September that the world output of 2008-09 was about 114 million bales.

The world's lint yield has been reduced, mainly due to the reduced planting area in the United States, Brazil and Turkey, and the increasing competition between crops and cotton.

In terms of world cotton consumption, consumption is expected to decrease by 1% due to the global economic slowdown.
