Sri Lanka's trade union and labor rights activists strongly condemned the Palla's "mass layoffs and the abolition of trade unions" act.

The Sri Lanka trade union FTZGSEU is affiliated with IndustriAll.

The trade union said that Palla has unilaterally terminated two pay increases a year since August 2012, and the workers' protest was invalid, which led to the reduction of about 194 union members by the end of last year.

Workers can only return to their posts by signing a declaration that the union condemns ineffectiveness and promises no longer to join any trade union activities.

IndustriAll and FTZGSEU have confirmed that India's well-known shoe retailer and manufacturer brand Bata are one of several major brands purchased from Palla, and called on the company to assume the responsibility of supervising the supply chain.

"The clean clothing movement and the IndustriAll Global Union call for Bata to comply with the articles of association."

They said, "however, when multinational corporations can accept supplier irregularities and not ensure a fair solution to recovery payments and jobs, Bata should take Palla company from its supplier list at the end of 2013.

FTZGSEU union chairman Marx added: "workers need re employment.

Almost all trade union members were laid off.

In the event of such a violation, Bata continued to purchase.

Bata company should take responsibility for the supplier's behavior. "

The union requires all workers to be repaid and pay full salaries plus a total salary of $40 thousand.
