The Epidemic Has Reduced British Shoe Store Sales To The Level They Were 20 Years Ago
Despite signs of recovery in overall UK retail sales, shoe and leather store sales fell 17.3% in August, according to the British Footwear Association (BFA). Footwear was the worst performing sub sector, second only to the automotive sector (down 21%).
From January to August 2020, sales of physical shoe stores decreased by 28.1% compared with the same period last year. UK shoe sales fell in August for the sixth consecutive month.
The BFA estimates that retail sales of footwear and leather goods in the UK will fall by 27.4% to 28.6% in 2020, almost back to the level of 20 years ago.
